Gayaudet:

Finally the protests over Gayaudet's 9th president have ended after Ferandes' presidental appointment was terminated. This post is not to say I support or disagree with what the Deaf community did to get rid of Fernandes. If the support against the Board of Trustee's decision to hire Fernandes was literally seen all over the world, I wonder why it took the Board of Trustees more than five or six months to finally review their selection.

The Board of Trustees are supposed to look out for the University's stakeholders' interests. The stakeholders of Gayaudet were the students, parents, faculties, alumni and the overall Deaf community (and maybe those who have made financial contribution to the University), not Jane K. Fernandes or I. King Jordan! The Board of Trustees failed to act quickly when it was clear Fernandes and Jordan could not solve the problem.

Now, as a friend pointed out... we have to see what happens next. According to the Washington Post, the students who violated University policies and the law will be dealt with and the search for the 10th president is on. Will the consequences that the students face be fair? Will everyone be satisfied with the next person the Board of Trustee chooses to fill Fernandes' void?

Let us see now things go and whether Jane gets hired at another University (and how she fares there). All this makes me wonder if for many presidents to come, will protests become a regular occurrence at Gayaudet?

Firefox vs Microsoft Internet Explorer:

Firefox and MSIE have released their newest version of their internet browsers.

I am checking out Firefox 2.0 - since I first tried Firefox, I have never wanted to go back to Microsoft's IE, but I am curious to see what IE 7.0 is like.

There is an article that talks about the differences between the two browsers.

Pigeon eating Pelican...

Very interesting incident... maybe the next step for the Darwin Theory on evolution of pelicans.

Be sure to call your Power Company before you dig...

Got these photos from a friend via email. Good warning for those who do not check their power company before they dig.

Audism

Got in touch with an awesome guy that I met during my first year at RIT.  We had tons of fun being mischievous guys while living in Tower A.

Several fond memories I have with him are the time when we got together and taped some black and white print-outs of porn photos all over another friend's roommate who was a mormon and getting the RA (who came from my high school) pissed off.

Clogging up his shower drain and flooding up the North-East corner of Tower A 2nd floor while he was gone for the weekend.  I never told him I did it until after a bunch of residents had to meet with our Resident Director and saw how mad he was when it seemed like the RD was eyeballing me.  Eventually I told him and we had a good laugh!

Remembering the roasted cat in the oven, way before they decided to remove all the stoves in Tower A, the roasted cat story was sure a shock to us when people started making up rumours about what happened on the 3rd or 4th floor kitchenette.

Anyways, here is his article - good one for those who are audism.

Ah Chuan...

Last week, I finally got a chance to get a lot of applications out for job openings that I believe matched my business degree and got a chance to go to London, see several friends and got a chance to get an aqarium heater.

I have been keeping myself busy by brewing my next two batches of beer.  The first batch is supposed to be the cheapest batch I have ever made, but based on my initial observation the fermenating brew does not look like the other batches I made.  It is supposed to be dry ale, according to the type of sugar I used.

This afternoon I plan to brew better quality beer.  This Special Ale is going to be my first beer made without sugar and in place of sugar I am using a combination of Dark Dry Malt and Medium Dry Malt.

My parents left for Cuba this morning so I am stuck most of the week dog sitting Hamish.

What the heck!

Countries are responsible for their own security and intellegence.  Just added CBC news feed to my Google homepage and one of the very first articles I saw on the news feed was titled "FBI agents slip into Canada without approval: report".  The Canadian government does not have any problems with that, but I think Americans should.

It is the American peoples' taxes that pay for the FBI and they should stick to crimes that are happening in the United States such as the Jon Benet Ramsey case.  Besides Canada is supposed to be a partnership with the United States for fighting terrorism or cross-border crime, is it a sign Canada should stop making an effort to help the United States since it seems like the United States likes to micromanage everything?

If yes, let's go and relax in the autumn sunshine drinking some of our good ol' Canadian brew while the FBI does our job.

Life Insurance…

Am pretty sure you have read about the shooting of several Amish girls two or three days ago.

Today I paid my bank a visit and there was an Amish couple at the bank.  It was my first time and I did not even know that Amish people (except for those Amish people who are in frequent contact with non-Amish people) used money.  I thought they basically lived on what they grew or made and bartered for what they did not have with other Amish people.

My first guess was they were buying life insurance for their children in case some wacko comes by their childrens' school and kills them.

Lately…

Employment at Cold Springs Farm ended last week on Friday.  I am grateful I am not needed at Cold Springs Farm this week, the work boots I was using were one size smaller so my big toe ended up becoming numb (they are still numb today)!

The experince was worth it, but it is not something I would want for a real job.  The back of your fingers end up getting bruised or sore from hitting and/or rubbing against the bones in the turkeys' throat and sore thumbs from stretching their chests to cram the liver and hearts in.

Went to Brownell's trailer park with McCallum, Goure, Purcell, and Najfi for the weekend.  Had fun hanging out there and having some of Goure's Mouthwash® beverage on Saturday.  Brownell, Goure and McCallum wanted to play golf, and half way through it was too windy and cold for Brownell, Purcell and me to stay so we headed back to the trailer after Najfi arrived.

Got back on Sunday and did chores.  Now am back to job hunting and getting ready for the Thanksgiving weekend.  FrecklesFly will be coming for the weekend, was supposed to go to a poker party at Santos on Friday, but it was cancelled so need to figure something out for Friday and Saturday.
