Sorry...

If you keep on checking my blog, I want to apologize for not updating
my blog as frequent as I did in Eastern Europe - I am in the Euro Zone
where it costs more to use the internet so I try to find the cheaper
ones, but I am in Europe to enjoy the culture and place rather than
hunt for cheap internet cafes.

Until later,

Day Sixty-Five

Day Sixty-Five - 29.07.05 - [Amsterdam -> Brussels]

  • Got up in the morning - stopped at McDonald's for the 4th time in Europe to pick up a Veggie McPita to taste on the train to Brussels.
  • Different, but obviously frozen veggies and lots of oil or juices that dripped out on my shorts! So easy to get our clothes dirty in Europe!
  • Got in Brussels around 13h and went directly to our hostel; not hard to find and was near the train station.
  • Rested until we were ready to go out and explore the area around our hostel. Found the food store and stocked up with bread, cheese, crepes, fruit, and of course, Beligan beer - would be crazy not to pass up the chance to sample Beligan beer!
  • Went back to our hostel and had dinner, checked emails and drank our Beligan beer, gotta say about beer in Europe - Beligans know how to brew good beer, Germans drink beer with style!
  • Goodnight!
Amount Spent: TBA

Day Sixty-Four - 28.07.05 - [Amsterdam]

  • Got up, no breakfast at our hostel which sucked - headed to the Bonatic {sp} Garden to see the largest water lily, stopped at a delicous soup place before the garden and found another fafel place {got to admit that since i first tasted fafels in Berlin, I have been nuts for fafels lately}.
  • After eating we found a library and found that internet was free, but sucked with the 30 minute limit.
  • We found another internet cafe and planned our way back to London - found that it cost us approximately 120€ to go to London on August 2nd, but only 80€ to fly to Dublin and figured it would be cheaper to stay in an Euro Zone country instead of London or England in general.
  • Booked our flights and reserved hostel in Brussels for two nights, leaving our last two nights in Brussels open in case we found Deaf people that would let us stay overnight.
  • Went to Amsterdam's sex muesum which was cheap, but okay before getting some Veitnamese fries with curry sauce.
Amount Spent: TBA

Day Sixty-Three - 27.07.05 - [Amsterdam]

  • Got up at 7 and had breakfast then signed out and headed to our next hostel and signed in.
  • Got our map of Amsterdam and planned our day - we tried to find Casa Roma to see the famous statue penis {for Rachel's sake, not mine} but could not find it so we headed to the old Heinken Brewery for the "Heinken Experince" tour.
  • Headed along one of the canals to find a park with a large chess set that was human size, once again could not find it.
  • We were hungry so we stopped at a coffeehouse and had brownies and cappuccinos {bought them so we could also use the wash closets after the free beer we had from the Heinken Experince, and in case you were thinking of something else, we did not smoke any weed in the coffeehouse though other people were!}
  • Headed back to our hostel, found a resturant called Green Planet that served vegeterian and vegan dishes with as many organic items as possible - good food and organic white beer along with organic, but not vegan honey beer. Only drawback, the dishes were tiny and not really worth the price, oh well.
  • We wanted dessert; but didn't have the mood to test Green Planet's dessert to find them small and expensive so found another coffeeshop that sold chocolate cakes and hot chocolate.
  • Headed back to the hostel and for some reason got lost, but figured our way back and decided to stay in because we were very tired!
Amount Spent: TBA

Day Sixty-Two - 26.07.05 - [Berlin -> Amsterdam]

  • We got up and packed up, headed to the post office and finally did something we wanted to do for a long time...
  • Mailed all our unused clothes, paper and pictures we collected and want to keep, my poncho, and other stuff I wanted to get rid of and now my backpack is half full!
  • Headed to train station, got on train to Hamburg.
  • Realized there was not much to see in Hamburg and there was no night train to Amsterdam so we got on next train headed to Amsterdam and hoped we would have no trouble finding a place to sleep {already reserved room for the 27th and 28th.
  • The scene at Amsterdam was bizarre! Something I never saw or imagined to see in my lifetime, the smoke from coffeehouses reeking through the streets, the red neon lit tiny showcase rooms with hookers standing there showing off themselves and trying to bait touists... and all those food stands with good smelling foods behind glass displays.
  • We headed to our hostel and found out it was booked full; they recommended an office thqt helped tourists find rooms at last minute notice, we had to settle with one for 30€/person for the night, but it included breakfast and probably would have been better than our next two nights in Amsterdam.
Amount Spent: TBA

Day Sixty-One - 25.07.05 - [Berlin]

  • Got up, we decided to tour the city starting with the bombed church that was never rebuilt that was right in front of the Zoo Train Station.
  • After that, we headed to the Reichstag building, viewed the mounment for the Soviet soldiers in WWII
  • We visited some more places, but will list them when I have time, time's running out...
  • Continuing this post...
  • We stopped by the remaining Berlin Wall called "Terror Road".
  • Then we got lost and figured our way to the East Tower and old Red Town Hall.
  • We decided to head back to our hostel and call it a night.
Amount Spent: TBA

Day Sixty - 24.07.05 - [Berlin
]

  • We spent the whole day relaxing, we were kind of worn out - moving from one spot to another so many times and spending the whole day walking around or riding trains really gets tiring sometimes.
  • Later in the afternoon, we decided to get up and look for the beer garden in Berlin, but could not find it and found an internet cafe so FrecklesFly could try and get some of her errands done that were urgent.
  • Headed back to the hostel, nothing really much today.
Amount Spent: TBA

Day Fifty-Nine - 23.07.05 - [Münich -> Rothenburg -> Berlin]

  • Got up early again to catch the train to Rothenburg to tour part of the Romantic Road in Germany.
  • We got to Rothenburg around noon and spent the afternoon exploring the old walled town. It was interesting to find out that with a town of 10,000 people in the middle of no where the Allied forces bombed 66% of the town which had no contribution to the Nazi war!
  • Caught the train to Weinburg, but ended up taking the wrong train that took us in the opposite direction so we lost our chance to look around Weinburg.
  • Got there and caught the night train to Berlin.
Amount Spent: TBA

Day Fifty-Eight - 22.07.05 - [Münich -> Füetten -> Münich]

  • Got up early, caught the train that was enroute to Fuetten, where we took the bus to Neuschwien (sp) Castle.
  • On the way we missed our train stop so we ended up having to go back on another train to our stop and got there approximately a hour late than we planned on.
  • Found out that tours were required for both castles and we negotated a deal of buying one ticket for one person and getting the other for free because we were Deaf (we are not supposed to tell anyone about that).
  • The first castle, not Neuschwien(sp) was okay, it was where King Ludwig II's parents lived, and our next tour was at the Neuschwien(sp) Castle.
  • The castle was interesting and there were nice views of the area around it.
  • We headed back to Munich.
  • It was pretty late, but we rushed to the Hofbrahaus so I could buy a Mass mug and join my father's "'HB'' stein club.
Amount Spent: TBA

Day Fifty-Seven

Day Fifty-Seven - 21.07.05 - Münich]

  • Spent today relaxing, and plan to head to another beergarden later tonight.
  • Updated my blog with a crazy queer looking at GAY porn on the internet at this internet cafe! Crazy eh?
  • Tomorrow we plan to go to Füetten to see the Neuschwyn (sp) castle and begin our tour along the Romantic Road then head towards Berlin.
  • Sorry for the lack of details here, time is running out for me on this computer.
Amount Spent: TBA

Day Fifty-Six - 20.07.05 - [Münich]
  • Got to Münich at 7 in the morning, our hostel was very near to the train station so we had no problems finding it.
  • We were hoping we could get beds and nap for a while, but it was so full that they told us we could get beds at 15h so we tried to kill time by buying their buffet breakfast which was ok-ok, it included, tea, coffee, three diffrent kinds of bread, two or three different kinds of cheese, jam, butter, honey, cold cut meat (which no one touched for more than two hours), and cereal with milk.
  • We tried watching television, but it was too tiring for us so I suggested we try to find the park and sleep there.
  • We ended up seeing St. Michael's church, which was very plain and boring inside, but had a bronzed dead priest (Catholics sure love doing things with their dead people)!
  • Next we headed to the Marienplaty and saw the townhall and the Glockenspiel when the carillon went on at 11h (took a video of the clock so you do not need to go to Münich to see it).
  • We headed to the Viktualien Market where we got to sample some nice tasting bread spreads and sauces.
  • Then we went to the old town hall before stopping at the Hofbräuhaus. That was the best part of my day even when I was so tired with not enough sleep.
  • It was nice seeing almost everyone drinking beer, even the women there too! Got to admit the women here are true women, those who drink only wine or liquor need to come here to learn how to drink beer and become real women.
  • FrecklesFly and I ordered our own Maß of beer, mine was light coloured (will get exact names of beer later) and her was dark colored.
  • In Mün-chen steht ein Hof-bräu-haus, oans, zwoa, G'suffa!
  • Ein Pro-sit, ein Pro-sit... der Gemut-lich-keit! Ein Prosit ein Pro-O-sit der Gemut-lich-keit!
  • Translate these two into English correctly and post your translations on my blog comment and maybe you`ll get a gift from me! :)
  • Headed to the park, saw the nudist meadow full of queer men, could not find the beach, found a river where people were surfing in it! Could not find the start of the river, but who cares, people were having fun surfing to figure out how the river started.
Amount Spent: TBA

Day Fifty-Five - 19.07.05 - [Cesky Krumlov -> Münich]
  • Got up, packed up and checked the schedule to get to Münich, the hostel kept on telling us to take their shuttle service that cost 599Kc each, that price was a rip off because we knew we could get there for less so we facked their service.
  • Walked down to the center of town, went to internet cafe to reserve hostel for Münich.
  • Went to the castle and checked out the jail, and a place where there were statues, walked down the main path of the castle towards the castle garden.
  • Had a snack, then checked out the knight jousting tournament, but the space was tiny and the line-up was too long of a wait for us and we believe that there was a fee to pay to watch the tournament.
  • As we headed down towards the road that would take us to the train station, we spotted a true vegeterian resturant and could not resist trying it out.
  • The best part of our meal was the blueberry dumplings that were served with yogourt and carmel, the rest was good, mostly beans, cocous, rice, corn, carrots, and some kind of onion tasting vegetable along with tofu and sauce.
  • Got to the train station and found out it cost 492Kc for trains to Linz, we tried to get tickets only to the border town of Czech Rep. and Austria. Later we found out that the station did not accept credit cards and the only place to get money was back in the centre of town!
  • We decided to use FrecklesFly's USD money and exchange it at a placec closer than the bank machine and learned that we were looking at the wrong exchange numbers and got less than we needed, but thank goodness that happened!
  • We decided to just get tickets to Cesky Budejovice and the woman at the ticket booth there was more helpful and got us tickets only to the border and we ended up spending 160Kc altogether for both of us (80Kc per person) to get to Münich!
Amount Spent: TBA

Day Fifty-Four - 18.07.05 - [Prague -> Cesky Kumlov]
  • Got up in the morning, packed up and got ready to walk to the Peterin Tower.
  • The view at the top of the Peterin tower was awesome, however it could have been better if there was no clouds or smog in the air.
  • After the tower we stopped by the mirror maze and had fun getting lost in the maze and then seeing ourselves becoming deformed by funny mirrors and having a lesson about Prague during the thirty year war (Sweden failed to conquer Prague).
  • After that, we stopped at a store to get a shirt for FrecklesFly, then we picked up some absinthe to drink on the train to Cesky Krumlov (just kidding).
  • Took the train, we had to stop and change trains in Cesky Budejovice where the Budwesier originated from (sorry St. Louis Budwesier lovers, your beer is not original and not the real "King of Beer", if the beer you are drinking says "Budvar", that is the real "Budwesier"). :)
  • Arrived in Cesky Kumlov and got a ride to our hostel with their free shuttle servicec, after signing in, we walked down the old town towards a restaurant that had vegeterian menu.
  • The food was good, but would not say it was the best resturant for vegeterians because all their options were international foods (we had Bean Burrito and Chinese Tofu Stir-Fry, not very local food eh?).
  • Headed back to our hostel and made few stops to have some of their beer and some Mojitos.
Amount Spent: TBA

Day Fifty-three

Day Fifty-three - 17.07.05 - [Prague]

  • We had a slow morning, breakfast was server a little bit late today because today's Sunday.
  • We napped some more and at around noon, we got ready to go out becasue FrecklesFly wanted to try and find a thimble for her mom, I wanted to check out prices of absinthe to bring back to Canada.
  • We stopped at Jaromiar Jágr's Sport Bar on the main street near the National Museum. There is a glass replica of Jágr's first Stanley Cup (1990 - 1991) when he played for Pittsburg. It was a nice bar, still cheap to eat there for foreign people, however it cost more in Czech standards. There was also a post that had whiskey bottles drunk by the Czech hockey team - Domik Hask and Jaromir Jágr could not drink more than half of their bottle when most of their team mates were able to drink more than 2/3 - 3/4 of one-litre of whiskey in a night (one player finished his bottle)!
  • Jágr's sport bar did not have good vegeterian choices, but we ordered a small snack of buttered vegetables and french fries which were good and 500ml of beer, all costed no more than USD$5.
  • Headed back down main street to look at some more stores to shop before stopping at the internet cafe.
  • We plan to go up the Petrin Tower later when it gets darker to see the whole city at night and we will be stopping at Arest (cheap Czech food) recommended by our hostel for dinner - hopefully they have good vegeterian choices.
  • Here I am now at the internet cafe, updating blogs, emails and reading friends' blogs (and posting comments on their blogs as well).
  • I sure miss Canada! Lots of my friends sure had fun on July 1st!

Day Fifty-two

Day Fifty-two - 16.07.05 - [Prague]

  • Got up and left our hostel at noon, stopped at the internet cafe to find out where we would meet Magda to meet up for what we think is a group of deaf people meeting up to work on plans to fight for better Deaf Rights in Eastern Europe.
  • After checking email, we decided to try to get to a market to see if there were some cheap things to get to remember Prague.
  • The market closed at 15h and we got there at 16h, oh well so we decided to take the metro for the first time to get closer to our hostel.
  • We had a hard time deciding whether we should eat first or go to our hostel first, in the end we decided to go to the same place we had dinner last night first before going to our hostel.
  • After we were done eating, we realized that there was no time to go to our hostel and change clothes and clean up before meeting Magda at 19h so we headed to the metro.
  • Met Magda at the end of our metro ride and there were a lot of Deaf people at the station waiting for the city bus, we rode the city bus to a hotel.
  • Everyone was dressed up nice while we were in our normal stinky clothes so we wondered what we were going to and when we entered the hotel, we saw a sign saying "Miss Deaf World" which explained everything!
  • It was very interesting, Magda warned us that the people running the show were all hearing and for more than four years the Deaf people have complained that they run the show the wrong way, one example was they videotaped the person host (who was hearing and spoke without signing) all the time and showed a tiny box with the interpreter in the bottom right corner of the screen televison!
  • We were shocked to also find out that the judges were hearing too! During breaks, they had young people perform dances, once again they were also hearing!
  • There were nine women from Czech, Slovekia, South Africa, America, Bulgaria, Russia, Italy and two more that we failed to find out where they were from, the winners were 3rd - South Africa, 2nd - Russia and 1st - Slovekia.
  • Magda also explained that every year less countries participate in Miss Deaf World - England and Canada used to participate, but they were not there and another guy, Mirek who came from Poland, but lives in New York City now explained that over time countries have abandoned the pagent because of the way it is run by hearing people and they prefer to participate in Miss Deaf Universe.
  • After the pagent, there was a banquet, but we were too tired and still stuffed from our dinner so we told Magda we would head back to our hostel so we bid our farewells and told her if we were up to doing more tomorrow we would email her.
  • On the way back to our hostel, we decided to look for a night club that had seven rooms built in an old catacomb! We found it, the enternace did not look very appealing, but we decided to take our time and look further back and found a stairway down to the basement, which led us to several catacomb rooms and tunnels!
  • We decided to have our first Czech absinthe to celebrate my birthday - FrecklesFly got her whole cup on fire while burning the sugar! The drink tasted strange and burned our throats and after a few seconds we felt light-headed! The alcohol content of absinthe was seventy percent.
  • We had several different cocktail drinks to cool down our throats before heading back to the hostel and on the way, I took some pictures of Prague at night.
Amount Spent: TBA

Day Fifty-one - 15.07.05 - [
Prague]
  • Arrived in Prague at approxmately 7h30 and we were very tired and kind of hung over from the Polish bar so we decided to look for a cafe to get something to eat and hopefully get rid of our headaches.
  • Could not find a cafe so we went to McDonald's and they were serving what seemed to be a normal lunch-dinner menu. We both got salad, me pop and FrecklesFly coffee and relaxed under their sidewalk umbrella.
  • After eating, we headed to the internet cafe to find out what time and where we could meet Magda, a Deaf girl who lives in Prague and would give us some tour of the city and booked our hostel. We decided to stay at a hostel that is on an island in the Vltava River called Traveller's Hostel.
  • We got there and signed in took a look around the place and walked on the other side of the island and got beer and water, played a game of fooseball with their mini-fooseball table (took a picture of it, remind me to show it to you if you are interested in what a mini-fooseball table looks like.
  • Went back to our hostel and rested for approximately one hour, before heading to Václavské náměstí to meet Magda at 15h.
  • Met her and she began the tour by taking us to the old town square.
  • Next we went to the Kings Garden, Prague castle, and going there, we crossed Chalres bridge.
  • After that we headed back to our hostel and said good bye to Magda, made plans on how we would meet up tomorrow.
  • We stopped at a vegeterian resturant with good food for good prices before going to our hostel for the night.
Amount Spent: TBA

Day Fifty - 14.07.05 - [Krakow -> Prague]
  • Got up, ate breakfast at our hostel, breakfast was bread, cheese slices, slices of cold meat (which went to waste), coffee, and jam.
  • Packed up and went to train station to get train that would take us to the town where the Auschwitz Concentration Camp (1 and 2) was, on the way stopped at a market and bought some berries and veggies to put on our sandwiches.
  • FYI: Cheaper to take train to Auschwitz than take tour bus that are available in Krakow (approx. 11pln one way train ticket vs. 160pln tour bus, round trip).
  • Got to the town and took city bus to the concentration camp, the muesum is free of charge, but we paid 4pln for backpack storage and 5pln to watch a movie clip which was pointless because we understood nothing with no english subtitles and the clip did not really have scenes we would easily understand what was happening.
  • Bought a tour guide phamlet and walked around Auschwitz 1, it is smaller than Auschwitz 2, however we were worn out from onlz #1 so we skipped #2 and headed back to the train station (our night train to Prague departs at 00h05 and arrives at approx 7h30) and decided to look for a place to have dinner and found a simple place called the Skorpion across the street from the train station.
  • Their menu had plenty of vegeterian choices so we had cabbage and onion pies (pegories) and cheese panackes (crepes with ricotta cheese and icing sugar) along with pickled red peppers and borscht soup with eggs. Delicous and cheap too!
  • Headed to the bar next door because the beer there was cheaper than the restaurant and we wanted to use up all our Polish coins before leaving for Prague.
  • Hanged out with a drunk Polish dude who seemed to understand some written English, but was fun to watch him struggle to understand or come up with English words to say to us and usually ended up speaking to us all the time.
  • He kept on telling us we could sleep at his hotel, but we kept on trying to tell him that we were waiting for the train to Prague.
  • Train arrived and we left, Poland is the first country we fully got rid of their coins!

Day Fourty-Nine

Day Fourty-Nine - 13.07.05 - [Krakow]

  • Arrived in Krakow around 5h, I figured that the sun rises sometime around 4h30 in Poland) and looked for the tram that would take us to our hostel.
  • We figured out that Krakow was not that big and that we could get to our hostel by walking, on the walk we realized that a lot of people were up and busy!
  • The only thing that made the scene different was that the roads were not full of cars, but it was full of trams!
  • We got to our hostel and could not figure out how to enter and sign in so we decided to look for a cafe. The irony was that there were so many people walking around along the streets, but we could not find a single cafe open! We were baffled and kept on walking around until we finally found one that was open.
  • We bought some pastry and coffee and looked at the map of Krakow. We figured out that things were going to be pretty cheap in Poland, if our calculations are correct 1.00 pln (Zlotych) = USD$0.30 or CAD$0.35.
  • We returned to our hostel and found more people waiting for it to open, there were even customers who woke up and were waiting for breakfast too!
  • The woman who was responsible for opening up arrived and signed us in, showed us our room and we found out that the hostel was brand new, it opened in May 2005 which explains why they are clumsy with opening up and maintaining the hostel.
  • We got settled in and decided to have a nap because we did not have a comfortable ride during the night and ended up napping until 11h.
  • We got up, made sandwiches for lunch and walked down to Wawel Hill.
  • At Wawel Hill, we had a glimpse of the city at the top of the walls of the castle, then took a swirling stair down to the tunnels where legend says a dragon (have to come back with the name) lived there and ate on little childern, cattle and knights until a clever child stuffed a sheep with sulfur and fed it to the dragon and caused it to blow up.
  • Got out at the bottom of the castle wall and walked along the wall to the enterance of the old town.
  • We walked along Grodzka street until we reached Rynek Glowny (Main Square) and St. Mary's Basilica.
  • We got a chance to see a fireman play the trumpets at the top of St. Mary's Basilica tower and stop in the middle of the bugle call in memory of the event when Krakow was invaded by the Tartars. Legend says the fireman, having spotted the army on the horizon, started playing his trumpet to alert Krakow's citizens and was hit by one of the invaders' arrows in the neck.
  • We walked along the old street, Florianska and enjoyed the view of the old buildings and exited the old town walking through the Florianska Gate.
  • We headed to the train station to get prices for train trips from Krakow to Oswiecim (Auschwitz) and then to Prague.
  • Figured out that we would save money by taking the train (approx. 130pln) instead of the tour bus (approx. 160pln). We felt we did not want the tour bus because we did not want to come back to Krakow and it had a guide that we wouldn't understand since they did not provide anything for Deaf people.
  • We headed back to our hostel, showered and headed out to have dinner. We went to 12 Mikolajska and ate dinner at a nice resturant named "Greenday".
  • We reccomend this restaurant for anyone - even if you are a "Meat Lover", you will still love the food there!
  • We both ordered one mixed salad (4.50pln) and our own plate of six mixed plates (14.50pln) along with Bread Drink and Grapefruit juice. The total was approximately 42.50 pln, but we used FrecklesFly's ISIC card and got a discount bringing it down to 38.16pln (approx. USD$11.09 or CAD$13.40)! We had enough food to feed four people!
  • We headed to the internet cafe to contact our host in Prague and let her know we are going to take the night train tomorrow night to Prague and be there in the morning of 15.07 and to update our blog and stuff online since things are cheap here (2.00pln/hour vs. 6.00euro/hour in Euro countries)!
  • Did not realize that I only had one day to update for my blog - I did all my updating yesterday and now I wish I updated it all today for a better value.

Amount Spent: 254.95pln (FrecklesFly & 195 combined, not including internet and remaining night expenses)

Day Fourty-Eight

Day Fourty-Eight- 12.07.05 - [Budapest -> Krakow]

  • Got up had breakfast, looked over some of Zoltán's wife's pictures.
  • Gave their kids Canadian hackeysack balls and pencils - they were very happy to get these gifts!
  • Said good-bye and headed to the mall to get some food for our day and train ride tonight.
  • Our plan so far for the afternoon is to buy our train tickets to Krakow, try to see the Labryinths, Citadel and Liberation Monument, and Statue Park if time permits since our train leaves at 19h30 tonight.
Amount Spent: 13.390Ft

Day Fourty-Seven 11.07.05 - [Budapest]

  • In the morning, we went with Zoltán's wife and his two children to the City Park (Városliget) and they went to the amusement park.
  • We headed over to the Heroes Square, took a look at the Vajdahwyad Castle, and took a two-hour swim in the hot tubs and warm pools at the park.
  • Then we tried catch the Great Synagogue to see the Tree of Life before it closed, but it was closed when we got there so we went to St. Stephen's Basilica to look around the place and see the mummified hand of St. Stephen.
  • We were very hungry so we stopped at an Indian resturant on our way to try to see the Labryinths at Castle Hill. The food was delicous and came at a good price.
  • After eating, we started walking to the Labryinths, but it started to pour so we decided to take the metro to the mall before going back to Zoltán's place for dinner.
  • Reserved our place in Krakow, Poland for 14.07.05 and went to the food store to try and find vegeterian stuff to share with Zoltán's family because they were very surpised to find out that we would not eat any meat, but we could not really find much.
  • We got back very late, but they had dinner, delicous potato soup with some kind of oil, chili and egg topping and told Zoltán about our day, he was very tired so we let him go to bed early.

Amount Spent: 3.848Ft

Day Fourty-Six - 10.07.05 - [Budapest]

  • Arrived in Budapest at approximately 14h30 and walked down to the exit of the train station, saw someone holding a paper with my name on it and immediately knew it was one of Kristian's friends who lived in Budapest.
  • Met up with him and met his wife, it took a while for us to get used to a new sign language and we could tell that they were struggling to get used to ASL!
  • They figured that we wanted to get the schedule for trains to Krakow, Poland before leaving the station so they helped us get the schedule, then we headed to their place.
  • They had a nice cozy place a while out of the city, met their ten year old son and they let us get cleaned up, gave us some dinner, then Zolan gave us a tour along the Danube (Duna) river, showed us the Széchenyl Lánchid (Chain Bridge), Castle Hill (Várhegy), Margit Island, Mathias Church, Parliament, and several main streets.

Day Fourty-Five

Day Fourty-Five - 09.07.05 - [Lokva Rogoznica -> Zagreb -> Budapest ]

  • We left the room at around 9h and caught the bus to Split.
  • We checked the train schedule and found out that we had to leave Split at around 22h and will arrive in Zagreb around 6h 10.07.05 and then have to switch trains and will get to Budapest around 14h30.
  • We decided to put our backpacks in storage at the train station and look around Split, found this internet cafe and decided to catch up with our blogs.
Amount Spent: TBAKN

Day Fourty-Four - 08.07.05 - [
Lokva Rogoznica]
  • We got up pretty late again today and had the chocolate mix for breakfast.
  • We headed to the beach again and found a nice boulder to lie on while sunbathing. The water was choppy and rough today so there were some pretty big waves that kept on splashing on us.
  • We found a fishing net and FrecklesFly tried to scoop up some coral reef plants that were washing on shore.
  • I read for a little bit, and we were starting to feel hot and wanted to be in the shade so we went back to our room, and the lady told us how much we owed her for five nights.
  • I was told that the nearest bank was in Omis so we decided that I'll go to Omis and get money and also check emails and let the person in Budapest know that we would be in Budapest on 10 July.
  • The bus to Omis was easy to catch, but on the way back it was very hard, three bus drove past me and the fourth one finally stopped and took me back to Omis (If it did not stop, I would have started walking back to Lokva Rogoznica)!
  • Got back and was tried so read my book on the bed and after a while, BOOM! the bed fell apart!
  • The woman was very upset and kept on saying the bed was new and we tried to help her fix the bed, but at the end, the bed looked fixed, but I'm pretty sure the next people who sleep on the bed will feel the BOOM again. We put a coke bottle under the bed to help support the mattress for our last night there.
  • We had pasta, corn, butter, onion and a loaf of bread for dinner and read a bit before going to bed.
Amount Spent: 381,93KN

Day Fourty-Three - 07.07.05 - [
Lokva Rogoznica]
  • I got up late and saw that FrecklesFly went to the market and bought some chocolate mix, fruit, cheese, bread, and vegetables for breakfast/lunch.
  • After lunch, we got dressed into swimsuits and went to the beach, we spent approximately three hours at the beach before heading back to our room to relax.
  • We got some wine to drink while reading our books, but we ended up chatting while relaxing on the balcony outside our room.
  • We ended up not being very hungry for dinner so we went to bed after reading for a while.
  • Today was a nice and relaxing day!

Amount Spent: 118,59KN

Day Fourty-Two - 06.07.05 - [Lokva Rogoznica -> Omis -> Lokva Rogoznica]

  • RrecklesFly said there was an internet cafe on the way to our room so we thought it was nearby.
  • We decided to walk along the road and later we started feeling fustrated because the town seemed to be further than we expected.
  • We stopped for a quick swim on the way, then continued to town, we arrived in Omis after approximately two or three hours of walking!
  • We found an internet cafe, but it was closed so we decided to have lunch at a pizzeria, the food was very cheap there according to our numbers we used from Let'sGo since we had no chance to check online.
  • We ordered a pizza for each of us, but later realized that the pizza was too big and at th end we were so full!
  • Went to internet cafe, checked emails and tried to update blogs.
  • Decided to head back to our room by bus.
  • While we were waiting at the bus stop, three or four bus drove past us without stopping, we were fustrated, but decided to walk back to our room.
  • We stopped at a market to get some food and drinks and got back in town just as the sun was going below the horizon.
  • We were still too full and read a little bit before calling it a night.

Amount Spent: 153.50KN

Day Fourty-One - 05.07.05 - [Maribou, Serbia -> Zagreb, Croatia -> Split, Croatia ]
  • We decided to take the 9h train to Maribou, Serbia and find out how to get to Zagreb than let the train station workers wonder if we plan to stay at the train station all day
  • We got there and found out we had two hours to kill, we looked for the internet and found an university or school that had a computer lab that we could use computers for free!
  • We checked emails and contacted the lady that we planned to sleep at in Split to let her know that we missed the train yesterday.
  • We headed back to the train station and caught the train to Zagreb, Croatia.
  • In Zagreb, we bought our next train tickets that would take us to Split. The Eurail Pass we have does not cover train fares in Serbia and Croatia, in case you wondered why we were buying train tickets.
  • We got in Split at 8h45 and rushed to catch a bus to Lokva Rogoznica, god the people who had rooms were attracted to us like magnets! They followed us to the bus station, and kept on yelling in our faces their offers for rooms!
  • Lucky one of the women who were trying to get tourists to buy her room realized we were Deaf and trying to find the correct bus to our room so she helped us find the bus to Lokva Rogoznica.
  • We got to our room around 22h and it was raining when we got off our bus so we were kind of soaked when we arrived and it was nice to finally have a good bed under me!
  • We fell asleep without wanting to get up and get some dinner!

Amount Spent: TBAKN

Day Fourty - 04.07.05 - [Wein (Vienna) -> Somewhere between the Austria-Serbian border ]
  • We got up, signed out and went to the train station and put our backpacks in lockers for the day and bought our train tickets to Split, Croatia.
  • We headed to the Nachtmarkt to see what it was like, there was plenty of fresh fruits and veggies there along with wine stores and resturants.
  • We had some vegeterian sandwiches from an India stand that were huge and delicous before heading to St. Stephen to tour the catacombs.
  • The catacombs were awesome, it was very cool under the church and I sneaked several pictures - makes the trip worth my money since it was not discounted for Deaf people and we understood nothing of what the tour guide said about the catacombs.
  • We saw zillions of skulls, bones and rats in the catacombs, the bones and skulls were mixed and crammed into rooms with no names, FrecklesFly and I guessed that they were just poor people who died of the plague and not worthy for Catholic people to remember their names.
  • After the catacombs, we stopped at a store, then headed to the train station to catch our train.
  • We couldn't find our train and asked for help and the people said our train was at another train station!
  • Why didn't the booth person tell us that our train was leaving from another train station, we had less than 30 minutes to rush to the other station across town!
We got to the other station, just barely too late and missed our train so we were stuck in Austria for another night!
  • We tried to figure out another way to Zagreb, Croatia and stay there for a night, but we ended up being stuck at the Austria-Serbian border in a tiny town - forgot it's name.
  • We slept on the train station bench, which was very uncomfortable, but free!
  • BTW, Happy Birthday America! :)

Amount Spent: 42,22€

Day Thirty-Nine - 04.07.05 - [Wein (Vienna)]
    • We got up, made plans to stop by several places while we had breakfast - the hostel provided good breakfast that had yogourt, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, jam, cheese, and bread.
    • We stopped at the tourist office first to check out the Vienna Card, but we figured that we would not save very much money with it and headed to the Habsburg Palace *will get correct name later*.
    • Headed to a Modern Art gallery, tried to go to the Armour muesum, but it was going to close in one hour so we decided it would not be worth our money.
    • After that, we headed to St. Stephan's church to see if we could go up the tower and see the catacombs full of dead people from the plague but they said the tours were closed because of mass being done that day so we planned on coming the next day.
    • We headed to a vegeterian bar/restaurant, only to find it being closed so we decided to try and find a microbrewery that we saw in our Let'sGo book, but we could not find it and found a nice restaurant that had a vegeterian menu which we could not even understand.
    • I ordered a dish that had some kind of India vegeterian patties, salad, sauktraut and potato salad. The sauktraut and potato were very delicous - they do not taste the same as in North America!
    • Rachel ordered something and it looked like it was breaded fish fillets and salad!
    • After dinner, we headed back and saw a nice cafe with modern furniture, we stopped for a drink and looked at the furniture which still had their price tags, the chairs we were sitting on costed approximately 900Euros!

      • After signing in, we decied to relax in the lobby, read and rest while having our breakfast/lunch.

        • Got up, ate breakfast and signed out.
        • Decided to try and take the Glacier Express route for free as suggested by my mother.
        • Got to Brig and found out there was no way to go on the route for free, to get to St. Mortiz for free, we had to go through Zurich!
        • We decided that the price of going on the Glacier Express route would be worth the view, for 45CHF, we figured that it would make up for us not going to Zermatt.
        • The view on the route was amazing, lots of beautiful mountains with cows that had those strange BIG bells around their necks!
        • I took as many pictures as I could, but I think taking pictures of the route during the winter time would be more beautiful.
        • We decided not to go to St. Mortiz becuase we saw nothing interesting or important there and took a night train to Vienna.

        Amount Spent: 117,88CHF

          • Got up early and ate breakfast, then headed to the train station to find out how much it costed to get to Zermatt, it costed 66CHF and FrecklesFly was not willing to choke up 66CHF so we decided to go to Zurich instead.
          • In Zurich, we saw McDonald's and decided to try their VeggieBurger which looked like breaded chicken patties, the veggie patty was very delicous and much colourful than the veggie patties we have in North America!
          • We walked down Bahnhofstrasse, the shopping experince of Zurich! Expensive stores were all over the street and it was decorated with giant teddy bears.
          • We went along the Burkliplatz Pier and along the harbour towards Zurichhorn Park with hopes to see breahtaking views of the alps, however the weather prevented good views with its smog/haze/clouds.
          • We saw the China Garten and the Corbusier-Haus and a sculpture done by an artist at the park too.
          • We walked past the Grossmunster Church; Zurich's most famous landmark, the Fraumunster Church; saw stained glass by Marc Chagall and St. Peter Church; it had the largest clockface in Europe.

            • Took the train to Grindelwald and found out that the Eurail Pass did not cover the train trip to Grindelwald and to Jungfrau and it would have cost both of us a total of 259CHF! Too expensive for us.
            • At the same time, we felt it would not be worth the money because the hostel information desk told us not to go up there because the weather was bad up there and would not give us a good view.
            • We decided to walk around Grindelwald to make our trip up to the town worth our money and time. There were nice stores along the main street, a nice big community center with a huge ice rink, swimming pool, sauna, bar, billards, tennis, almost every type of sport you could think of there.
            • We went back to Interlaken, stopped at the grocery store near the West train station for items we needed to make our Switzerland dinner.
            • We made a Ralattche dish, that included: potatoes, ralattche cheese pickles and pickled onions with salad. That dish was very delicous and filled up us well!

              • It took five hours to get to Interlaken and we found our hostel, Balmer's which was huge and crowded with other travellers.
              • We walked around town to become familar with the town and see what was nearby.
              • Got some bread, lettuce, cheese and wine for dinner and during dinner, we tried some of the local beer - Balmer's offers the cheapest beer in Europe that I have seen so far, two cups for the price of one at 4,50CHF during happy hours between 21h to 22h and the cups are huge!
              • We were worn out and decided to go to bed early, it felt early, but we went to bed at 24h.
