UN adopts landmark bill for disabled rights:
Was reading this article on CBC's website about United Nation's bill for Disabled Rights. This bill is supposed:
"Promote, protect and ensure the full and equal enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms by all persons with disabilities, and to promote respect for their inherent dignity."This brings me to question which people are involved with the development of this bill.
Is the committee made up of so called "experts on disabled people"? I have not read the full text on the convention, but where do Deaf people fit in this bill? What issues have been taken in consideration to improve the quality of Deaf people's lives? Were these considerations or recommendations made by those "audist experts" who do not care about our inherent dignity and think Deaf people need to be repaired with cocklear implants or magic pills?
According to CBC, the next step is to get Canada to ratify this bill, let's see how fast Canada does this - hopefully with the same speed as Canada's ratification of the bill on Women and Children's rights. Let's see if this landmark bill actually makes a mark on land. :)

Check out this link...what a crock. It's the Canadian goverment's answer to the ADA.
They even say the following
"because disability issues cut across the federal government's organizational lines, they often get lost in a bureaucratic shuffle."
In the whole writeup or "policy framework" they are basically admitting that they don't know what they hell they are doing.

A whole lot of suggestions and recommendations are made but no official legislation has ever been passed. It's 2006, soon to be 2007. This article was written in 2004.
Wow...Canada, with a population of only 33,098,932 (the state of California has 33,871,648) they can't create a law that will create equal access for a very small fraction people in a whole country that has less than the population of one State. Sad.
